How to Annoy Someone on FaceBook

March 23, 2009 by Doug Mcisaac

Quick rant here and a little insight into who I am. I hate, hate, hate being interrupted and like to schedule everything. Well almost everything.  Maybe it’s a control thing I don’t know. It’s simply a reality in my life that I need to be able to control my calender. So I’ve always hated IM unless I was planning a chat with someone. Now I just meet them on Skype and talk, but I used to have chat sessions with developers I worked with in India before Skype.  But I digress…

Here’s a rgeat way to annoy someone on Facebook. Try it I’m sure it will work every time 🙂 Sarcasm intended.

I’m on Facebook today making a post and someone uses the chat function to pop up and say “hello.” Normally I ignore them, but for what ever reason, temporary insanity? I responded and said “Hello”

Here’s how the rest oif the conversation went:

They said “how are you”

I said, “Busy” Then felt a little bad for being rude so followed up with “how are you?”

They responded with “how do you going”

I responded “?”

They responded “Where are you located?”

I responded “Billings, Mt like it says on my profile, have a good day” and closed out of Facebook.

Here’s what they or anyone interested in being successful in Social Marketing should have done:

1. Read my profile before sending me a message.

2. Commented on something that I had posted, vote on a link etc… to engage in a conversation that I had already started and so that I would recognize their name

3. Found something in my profile to comment on when they messaged me. Then they would have had a reasonable chance of getting my attention and not ultimately annoying me.

You have to remember that people are inyerested in themselves first, then they may become interested in you. So always discuss them, their profile, their interests first, then they will be open to hearing what you have to say.

Hope you enjoyed the rant — let me know your thoughts and/or what else they could have done. I need to log in and remove them from my friends list before I forget their name…

Social Media is Going Main Stream

March 23, 2009 by Doug Mcisaac

Oprah started a Facebook fan page last week and has 388,000 fans already and Ellen DeGeneres started a Twitter profile and has over 323,000 followers already.

The tidal wave is beginning to build momentum and if you understand how to use social media for marketing you will be able to ride this tidal wave. That sounds like there’s a commercial coming. It wasn’t meant that way, but most of readers know that I’m passionate about social media marketing and am involved with Social Traffic and the Earth Day Birthday campaign. If you’re unfamiliar with them please check out the links it’s the best social marketing training available anywhere

StumbleUpon

September 8, 2008 by Doug Mcisaac

Some great reasons to use StumbleUpon. I’ve received more traffic from SU than any other social bookmarking site. I just checked one of my clients sites. She’s received 4 times as much traffic from SU than she’s received from all of the other social bookmarking and they are sticking better as well 2.3 pages per visit versus 1.2 pages per visit.

7 Reasons StumbleUpon is a New Blogger’s Best Friend from Traffikd by Steven Snell

New bloggers have a lot of resources at their disposal and they have a need to determine which ones are worth their time and which ones aren’t. Many new bloggers get caught up in spending their time on activities that they think will be productive only to find later that they’ve been wasting their time.

Interesting insight into social conversations

August 13, 2008 by Doug Mcisaac

I wanted to introduce all of you to some very interesting insight from Brian Solis who is a public relations professional and a Principal of FutureWorks.

Most of you are familiar with the different pieces of online social communications, but we don’t think about how everything interacts and how we can use that interaction top improve our relationships.
One of Brian’s quotes is “In the social economy, relationships are the new currency.” Which is dead on. In the “offline” economy we worked with he shop owner who knows our name and frequent the bar where they know your favorite drink. Through social media we are getting opportunities to get to know people long before we meet them. It’s very interesting, I strongly recommend that you check our Chris’s post:
